Crime definitely doesn't pay, and for a 23-year-old serial fraudster in Ogun State, a craving for a cheap meal was what finally brought his multi-million naira scam empire crashing down.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Adeshola Muyiwa, a young man who has allegedly been terrorizing small business owners across the Agbado axis and adjoining communities with fake bank transfers.

The most shocking part? He reportedly confessed to raking in a staggering N10,000,000 from his fraudulent activities over time—only to get caught over a N2,600 food bill.

The N2,600 Mistake

According to police reports, Muyiwa’s run of good luck ended on Sunday morning, May 17, 2026.

At around 8:00 AM, the suspect walked up to a food vendor at the popular Owolanwa Junction in Agbado. He purchased food items worth N2,600 and, using his usual trick, flashed a fake bank transfer alert on his phone as proof of payment.

Realizing they had been scammed, a report was quickly lodged with the authorities. Operatives of the Agbado Division swung into action, executing a coordinated investigation that led to Muyiwa’s swift arrest at around 11:45 AM that same day.

A N10 Million Scam Empire Exposed

While he was caught over a petty amount, further police digging revealed that Muyiwa was no small-time offender.

Confirming the arrest to journalists, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the suspect had a highly organized pattern of targeting unsuspecting business owners.

Muyiwa’s modus operandi relied on generating fake and scheduled bank transfers to deceive vendors, traders, and point-of-sale (POS) operators who often don't wait for actual wallet confirmations before releasing goods.

Police Commendation and Next Steps

The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, highly commended the professionalism, vigilance, and speed of the Agbado Division officers, led by CSP Adesanya Oyekanmi.

CP Ojajuni used the opportunity to reassure the public that the Command remains fiercely committed to wiping out financial and cyber-enabled crimes across Ogun State.

With tech-savvy fraudsters on the loose, business owners are advised to:

  • Wait for the credit alert on their own official bank app or via SMS from their bank—never rely on the customer's phone screen.

  • Double-check your account balance before letting a customer walk away with goods.
