Talk about extreme hide-and-seek!

There was serious drama in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi as officers of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board arrested a man who attempted to evade arrest by squeezing himself into a "Ghana-Must-Go" bag inside a married woman's home.

The bizarre incident, which has left the local community in shock, came to light after eagle-eyed residents noticed a strange man slipping into the woman's house late at night and decided to blow the whistle.

The Midnight Sting

According to Sirajo Kamba, the Director of Sharia at the Kebbi Hisbah Board, the agency received a tip-off from concerned neighbors around 12:15 AM on Monday, May 18.

Suspecting an illicit, late-night affair that goes against Islamic teachings, the residents alerted authorities. Hisbah officers were swiftly deployed to the scene to investigate.

Denial and Discovery

When officers knocked on the door, the woman initially put up a front, vehemently denying that anyone else was in the house. However, after some back-and-forth, she eventually allowed the officers to conduct a search.

They certainly didn’t expect what they found next.

While combing through the house, officers discovered the male suspect completely concealed inside a large "Ghana-Must-Go" bag, hoping to escape detection.

Confession and Court Date

The bag strategy didn't pay off. Following their arrest, both suspects were taken in for interrogation.

According to the Hisbah Board:

  • The Affair: Further investigations confirmed that the two were indeed involved in a romantic relationship.

  • The Confession: During questioning, both suspects reportedly admitted to the allegations.

  • Next Steps: They are currently being prepared for arraignment in an Islamic court to face legal proceedings.

While the board has kept the identities of the lovebirds under wraps for now, the neighborhood is still buzzing over the sheer lengths the man went to just to avoid getting caught.

A Crackdown on 'Immoral Acts'

This incident is just the latest in a string of recent clampdowns by Hisbah boards across Northern Nigeria. Just days prior, the Kano State Hisbah Board arrested a 35-year-old fish seller and his female companion from the Niger Republic in a hotel room for allegedly preparing to engage in "immoral conduct."

The Kebbi State Hisbah Board, which operates under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has reiterated its commitment to upholding societal morals and Islamic law.
