The Ekiti State Police Command has taken swift disciplinary action following a wave of public outrage. Police Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope has been officially dismissed from the force after a viral video exposed him acting erratically under the influence of illicit substances.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the immediate dismissal in an official statement released on Friday, May 15, 2026.

The Viral Incident in Ikole-Ekiti

The embarrassing incident took place on May 9, 2026, in Ikole-Ekiti. A video circulated widely across social media platforms showing the uniform-wearing sergeant exhibiting highly unstable behavior in public.

The police command described the footage as an "unfortunate and ridiculous incident" that severely undermined the dignity of the law enforcement agency.

Medical & Psychological Tests Exposure

Following his immediate arrest, the command subjected Sergeant Temitope to rigorous medical and mental health evaluations to determine if he was suffering from a psychiatric breakdown or substance abuse.

According to the official statement:

  • Psychological Evaluation: Results showed the officer was mentally and emotionally stable, meaning he was fully aware of his actions.

  • Medical Toxicology Test: The test came back positive for Tobacco and Amphetamines (a potent central nervous system stimulant).

Faced with the scientific evidence during internal interrogation, the dismissed officer reportedly broke down and confessed to his routine consumption of illicit drugs.

Zero Tolerance for Indiscipline

Following an internal disciplinary trial, Temitope was found guilty of gross misconduct. The recommendation for his dismissal was fast-tracked and approved by higher authorities to take immediate effect.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to the entire command, charging officers to maintain absolute integrity, professionalism, and dedication.

"The Force remains a disciplined organisation and will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, unprofessional practice or any conduct capable of ridiculing the image of the Force," the command stated.
