As opposition factions gear up to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, key political stakeholders have reaffirmed their backing for the multi-party "G100" coalition project—even as individual ambitions complicate unity efforts.
The movement comes amid strategic calculations around **Section 134 of the Nigerian Constitution**, which establishes that if no presidential candidate achieves both a simple majority and the required 25% geographical spread across two-thirds of the states, INEC must trigger a second run-off election.

#### **PDP Faction Pledges Full Support for Opposition Merger**
Speaking on behalf of the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong declared that uniting the opposition is the only viable path to unseating the incumbent administration.
> *"The PDP, led by Tanimu Turaki, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, remains committed to the G100 activities. We have resolved that the only way to rescue Nigeria from the maladministration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC is for the opposition parties to come together,"* Ememobong stated.
#### **APM Remains Committed—But Flags Presidential Ambitions**
Echoing similar sentiments, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) confirmed its active involvement in the G100 discussions since their inception. APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf noted that cross-party engagements are progressing behind closed doors.
However, Yusuf emphasized that APM's candidate, **Seyi Makinde**, remains firmly in the presidential race, highlighting the delicate balance opposition parties face between building a unified alliance and managing internal leadership bids.
> *"Our party was there from the beginning. The conversation is ongoing, and as time goes on, I believe the other stakeholders will make some of the decisions and positions public,"* Yusuf added.
With constitutional run-off provisions looming large over political planning, the ability of coalition leaders to negotiate single candidacy vs. multi-candidate run-off strategies will likely determine the opposition's strength in 2027.
