President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the **Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025**, officially extending the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The confirmation was made in a statement by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga following the swift passage of the amendment bill by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

#### **Why the Extension Was Necessary**

The amendment bill was sponsored in the red chamber by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), who explained that government agencies needed additional runway to complete vital infrastructure initiatives.

While funds had already been released to various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the actual execution of several capital projects had lagged behind initial schedules.

Key reasons and impacts of the timeline shift include:

* **Preventing Disruption:** MDAs now have three extra months to utilize allocated capital funds without stalling ongoing critical programs.

* **Maximizing Resources:** The extension ensures that funds already disbursed are fully deployed for public infrastructure rather than returning unspent due to rigid calendar cutoffs.

* **Legislative Alignment:** Both the Senate and House of Representatives conducted clause-by-clause reviews before swiftly passing the bill to maintain economic momentum.

President Tinubu praised the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their rapid consideration and passage of the bill, citing it as another demonstration of productive collaboration between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
