As preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections gather momentum, traditional rulers are stepping up to reinforce public confidence in the electoral process. During a recent high-level delegation visit to his palace led by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official Professor Joash Amupitan, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, outlined crucial steps needed for a seamless voting exercise.

The Emir commended INEC for its proactive engagement and for keeping traditional institutions up to date on the commission's operational readiness and election timetables. However, he emphasized that delivering a credible election requires strict focus on execution.

#### **Key Recommendations from the Emir:**

* **Rigorous Testing & Timely Logistics:** Sensitive electoral materials and voting devices must be thoroughly audited, tested, and delivered to polling units well before voting day to avoid last-minute glitches.

* **Transparency & Security:** Prompt announcement of election results, clear public communication, and strong security measures are essential to build trust and deter interference.

* **Responsible Campaigning:** Political parties and supporters must avoid hate speech and provocative actions that threaten national unity during the campaign season.

By fostering open dialogue between electoral authorities and traditional leaders, both sides hope to ensure transparent operations, mitigate election violence, and safeguard voter trust across the country.
