### What Happened During the Field Trip
The tragedy occurred during a "School of the Wild" excursion at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area, an educational program attended by students from the Iowa City Community School District.
Search and rescue teams responded to the Coralville Reservoir inside the state park on Tuesday afternoon, where they recovered Jorgensen's body. A massive 25-hour multi-agency search—involving the Johnson County Metro Dive Team, local fire departments, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the State Patrol, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers—followed as crews worked around the clock to locate the missing student. Osman’s body was recovered from the water the following day.
Authorities have not yet released details on how both ended up in the water, and an active investigation into their deaths remains ongoing.
### A Community Mourns
The Iowa City Community School District released an emotional statement on Facebook honoring both Jorgensen and Osman:
> *"Hannah and Ahmed were so much more than members of our school community. Their absence will be felt in the classrooms and hallways of Borlaug, in the lives of those who loved them, and throughout our entire school district community... We will remember Hannah. We will remember Ahmed. And we will carry their memory with us."*
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds also offered her condolences to the families, classmates, and staff affected by the loss, stating that "Iowans across our state are standing with you in the difficult days ahead."
