Environmental enforcement officers in Ogun State have arrested a woman caught on video dumping household waste directly into a public drainage channel in Sagamu during a rainfall.
The arrest was carried out jointly by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) and Environmental Health Officers (EHO) from Sagamu Local Government following the online circulation of the clip, which showed the suspect emptying a yellow sack of refuse into flowing rainwater.
OGWAMA confirmed the enforcement action in an official statement on X, reiterating that indiscriminate dumping during rainfalls damages drainage infrastructure and worsens localized flooding.
"The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), in collaboration with the Environmental Health Officers (EHO) of Sagamu Local Government, has apprehended the lady captured in a viral video dumping waste into a drainage channel in Sagamu," the agency stated.
The authority advised residents across the state to stop improper waste disposal methods and instead utilize accredited waste collection operators to maintain public sanitation, emphasizing that "a cleaner Ogun State is a shared responsibility."
