The Benue State Government has thrown down the gauntlet to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), demanding that he name the specific official allegedly responsible for obstructing his visit to the Yelewata community.

Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, denied any state involvement in the Tuesday incident. He clarified that the administration only learned about the blockade through photos circulating online and expressed surprise when Obi’s camp immediately pointed fingers at the governor.

Key Highlights from the Statement:

  • Challenge to Name Names: The state government urged Obi’s team to identify the specific political aide they claim ordered the disruption, rather than leveling general accusations at Governor Alia.

  • Call for Police Investigation: Kula called on the Commissioner of Police to investigate the claims, arrest anyone found responsible—regardless of their position—and bring them to justice.

  • Stance on Regional Insecurity: Addressing broader security concerns, Kula acknowledged the ongoing security struggles in Benue, reassuring the public that Governor Alia is actively working to bring lasting peace to the state.

The Benue State Government maintains it is fully ready to cooperate with law enforcement to uncover the truth behind the Yelewata incident.
