Babcock University has officially debunked claims by popular comedian and content creator Carter Efe (Oderhohwo Joseph Efe) that he graduated from the institution with a "First Class Upper" degree in Biochemistry, declaring the certificate he posted online a forgery.
The drama kicked off after Carter Efe claimed in a recent interview that he attended the prestigious private university and finished at the top of his class. To back up his claims, he shared a document on social media framed as his official 2023 graduation certificate.
The Red Flags: Why Babcock Disowned the Certificate
Babcock University wasted no time issuing a scathing disclaimer, pointing out several glaring administrative blunders on the document that proved it didn't come from their registry.
According to the university’s statement, the forged document failed basic institutional guidelines on two major fronts:
-
Wrong Academic Terminology: Babcock explicitly stated that it does not use the term "First Class Upper" anywhere in its grading system. The correct and only classification used by the school is First Class Honours.
-
"Honorary" Undergraduate Degrees Don't Exist: The document shared by the comedian was labeled as an "Honorary Certificate" for undergraduate performance. The school clarified that academic excellence is only recognized via standard official degrees and transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar—never through honorary undergraduate papers.
“Babcock University unequivocally states that this document is false, unauthorized, and does not emanate from the University... Legal action is underway.” — Babcock University Management
