The Oyo State Government has officially extended the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park.

The development was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde. The heightened security measure, which initially took effect on Wednesday, June 24, will now continue until Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Tackling the Security Surge

The curfew was originally implemented as a swift response to a rise in kidnapping incidents and other pressing security challenges plaguing the border communities. Under the initial directive, residents were restricted from movement between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 AM for a 48-hour period.

With security agencies still working to stabilize the axis, the state government deemed the extension necessary to maintain public order and safeguard lives. As of now, no further alterations to the daily time restrictions have been announced.

The active curfew strictly impacts the following 10 local government areas and their respective headquarters:

  • Oriire Local Government Area (Headquarters: Ikoyi-Ile)
